A growing number of Dubai offices are switching from daily catering to subscription tiffin service. The economics work — the experience doesn't always.

What office tiffin actually is

A subscription model where a caterer delivers sealed, hot tiffin boxes to your office on a fixed schedule — usually 5 days a week. Pricing is per-box per-month rather than per-event. Best for offices with 10-100 employees on a daily lunch programme.

Why it works for the right offices

• Predictable cost. Monthly invoice.
• No setup overhead. Sealed boxes per person.
• Menu variety built in. Good tiffin operators rotate weekly.
• Dietary segmentation easier.

Why it fails when it fails

• Temperature. If boxes arrive lukewarm, the programme fails within two weeks.
• Repetition. Without proper 4-week rotation, staff lose interest.
• Packaging. Leaky boxes destroy desks and reputations.
• Delivery timing. Boxes arriving at 1:15pm for a 12:30 lunch break is unacceptable.

What to ask before signing
